CAIRO – 8 October 2017: "Great Balls of Fire" version, a 1957 popular song recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis on Sun Records, was laid down on October 8, 1957.

A pioneering rock-and-roller, Lewis was born on September 29, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana. He tried to reconcile his strict Christian background with moral implications by using music.

He made his way to Sun records in September 1956 when he recorded his first single, a cover of Ray Price's "Crazy Arms.”

In 1957, Lewis became a star for his unique piano-driven sound in “Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," which became a hit in pop and rock.

"Great Balls of Fire," which was another big hit in December, 1957, came after “Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On."

Lewis at first thought that "Great Balls of Fire" would be against his conservative Christian background, but Sam Philips persuaded him to play music for moral good.
