CAIRO – 3 October 2017: Snapchat will be launching an augmented reality art exhibit on Tuesday, October 3, in collaboration with artist Jeff Koons.

Similar in style to popular mobile game Pokemon Go, Snapchat’s plan seems to involve placing Koon’s balloon sculpture art in select places around the world, visible through a special Snapchat lens being pointed at it. Leaked screenshots show Koons dog sculpture in Clyde Park, New York, and a giant rabbit across Paris’s Eiffel Tower.

The website also features a form inviting artists from all over to participate.

“The app, owned and operated by Snap Inc., has made a steady push into AR over the course of the last two years, experimenting first with its lens feature that adds real-time effects to a user’s selfie. Over time, the feature has evolved into

real-time virtual camera effects

, what Snap calls “world lenses,” that augment what users are seeing through the camera lens of a smartphone,” The Verge reported.
