‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ wins TIFF award

CAIRO – 19 September 2017: The film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ won the Grolsch People’s Choice Award at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The Grolsch People's Choice Award is given to the movie that wins the most votes from the public attending the festival.

The film was released in the United States and the United Kingdom on November 10, 2017.

The movie is a dark comic drama written and directed by the Academy Award winner Martin McDonagh.

Its plot revolves around a woman named Mildred Hayes (Academy Award winner Frances McDormand) who is fed up with the lack of progress in her daughter’s murder case. Consequently, she takes action to attract police’s attention to the case by painting three controversial signs which lead into her town.

The heroes of the film, which will be a frontrunner in 2018 Oscars race, are Woody Harrelson (Sheriff Bill Willoughby), Frances McDormand (Mildred Hayes), Sam Rockwell (Officer Jason Dixon) and Peter Dinklage (James).

The 42nd edition of TIFF took place in Canada from September 7 to 17.

TIFF was founded in 1976 at the Windsor Arms Hotel in which the best flicks from film festivals around the world were found. It became the world’s most important publicly attended film festival and has grown to embrace programming 365 days a year.
