CAIRO – 17 September 2017: Cairo Opera House will host La Corsaire Ballet from September 29 to October 2.

It is written by Adolphe Adam and it is based on one of Lord George Byron’s poems. The performance is directed by Abdel Moneim Kamel, and Erminia Kamel.

It consists of three chapters.

The events of the Ballet take place on the shore of the Bosphorus, telling the story of a pirate called Nour al-Din and his servant Ali who are rescued from a ship crash.

Nour al-din falls in love with Yasmine who rescued him; after that Yasmine is imprisoned with a number of ladies, and he heads a fight to release her, eventually managing to do so.
The performance is characterized by impressive and attractive techniques such as the decor, lighting and dances.

The Ballet was performed for the first time in Paris in 1856. A number of additions are provided to the original text such as the dance of Nour al-Din with Yasmine.
