CAIRO - 13 September 2017: The “Mokouk El Nile” Festival is kicking off in Sudan with a performance from the Aswan-based Sufi recital band “El Seba’ia.”

After receiving an invitation to participate, the troupe is flying out on Wednesday to the capital before heading to Sennar, the capital of the Islamic culture in Sudan where the festival is taking place.

The festival is celebrating culture and reviving environmental tourism in the Blue Nile Basin. It is taking place across the Blue Nile from El Roseires town in Blue Nile state until the junction where the White and Blue Nile meet.

The festival includes a race along the Blue Nile starting at Sennar, as well as a number of cultural and sports activities.

The festival is organized by the Sennar Capital of Islamic Culture in partnership with the Sudanese Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Interior, National Security and Intelligence Service, and the Federation of Rowing and Canoeing amongst others.
