Cairo- 13 September 2017: Amman International Book Fair selected the United Arab Emirates as the guest of honor in the 17th edition of the Amman International Book Exhibition, director of the fair and head of the Jordanian Publishers Union Khalil Albes told Jordanian news agency Petra on Monday.

Jordanian author Ebrahim Al Saafen was also selected as the Cultural Personality of the fair in recognition of his intellectual accomplishments.

Al Saafen told Petra that the selection of a local character from Jordan is a good gesture from the fair’s organizers to shed light on his literature and cultural production, in order to let the new generations know the pioneers of the cultural movement in Jordan.

The fair is organized by the Jordanian Publishers Union (JPU) in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.

A wide number of publishing houses representing different countries are taking part in the 17th edition of the fair, which will be held from October 4-14.

Al Saafen was born in 1942 and received a licentiate in Arabic language and literature from Cairo University in 1966, before obtaining his master’s and doctorate. He worked as a professor for Arabic language in a number of universities in Jordan and other countries. He has a number of articles, books and research papers.
