CAIRO – 11 September 2017: “I Will Defend Myself” exhibition by visual artist Nadia Mounier will be held at the Contemporary Image Collective from September 19 to October 9 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The title comes from Mounier’s third phase of her works, which she began in 2016. She used and restaged images from the past to talk about the present.

This exhibition will include works from the other two phases titled, “She Said: I Swear I Saw a Light Coming Out of the Side of My Eyes” and “Was That Really You?”

These phases focus on the representation of women produced and circulated in the Arab world. In her work, she is interested in images that do not primarily form part of artistic image production such as private image archives, stock photography, illustrations in books, magazines and images from photo studios or from the packaging of products.

Mounier, who graduated from Helwan University in 2010, is a visual artist interested in photography and image theory. Her work is concerned with the circulation of images between private and public contexts and their effect on our self perception.

Beyond digital and analogue collages and set-up photography, she also practices street and documentary photography. Mounier participated in a number of local and international exhibitions and festivals and is part of various collectives interested in city and image production, including “Cairo Bats.”
