CAIRO- 9 September 2017: The Amun statue was chosen to be the “Antique of the Month” in Alexandria Museum. It is a royal statue in the form of the god Amun wearing a crown and holding an Ankh. It won the "You are the one to decide" poll in September. This poll is held monthly by the Alexandria National Museum.

The museum's administration usually presents a number of artifacts to the public on its official page for voting. The National Museum of Alexandria announced the display of the Amun statue after receiving the largest percentage of votes.

“The aim of the poll is to increase communication between the museum and the public and to enable them to know more about the artifacts that are found in the museum,” museum supervisor Nadia Khedr said.

Khedr explained that Amun is one of the most important gods in the ancient Egyptian religion. The Karnak temple, one of the most famous temples in Egypt, is dedicated to Amun. Karnak’s architectural collections still bear witness to Amun’s religious and funerary significance in the ancient Egyptian era.
