CAIRO- 30 August 2017: The second Alwanat Festival for Short Movies in Minya, led by Egyptian film director Hala Khalil, will launch on October 27 and last through November 1.

For the first time, Alwanat Group for Arts and Culture will present the Short Movie Festival "Fanak Ha Yewsal" in Upper Egypt and in Minya. Other entries came from very talented artists as far back as October 26, 2015. Thirty short films from different governorates were screened at the first edition.

The festival aims to provide opportunities to up-and-coming film makers, directors, cinematographers, editors and actors.

Alwanat Cultural Center aims to make art a part of young people’s lives in Minya and Upper Egypt. Consequently, it organizes workshops in different fields, such as drawing, music, photography, cinema, theater, calligraphy and montage.

Hala Khalil is famous for directing the film “Nawara”. She started her career by writing and directing short films and documentaries. Among her famous short films are “The Kite” (1997), “Best of Times” (2004), and “Cut and Paste” (2006). Her films have participated in many film festivals and won several awards.
