George Smiley to return in le Carré’s ‘A Legacy of Spies’

CAIRO – 29 August 2017: John le Carré’s iconic cold war spymaster will return after a 25 year absence. Le Carré’s new novel ‘A Legacy of Spies’ will be published on September 7.
Le Carré, whose real name is David Cornwell, is famous for the bestselling novels interwar era espionage. Smiley is the hero in most of his novels, and his novels are based on his own experiences of working for British intelligence in 1950s and 1960s.

His most famous novels are: ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, and Spy’ in 1974, ‘Smiley’s People’ and ‘The Spy Who Came in from the Cold’ in 1963. His books were adapted for BBC television series where Alec Guinness played Smiley.

‘A Legacy of Spies’ blends between past and present of Smiley who has retired from espionage to a farm in southern Brittany. The series are similar to Smiley’s life story which began in 1961 with le Care’s first novel ‘Call for the Dead’.
