Egyptian photographer receives art residency in Paris

CAIRO – 14 August 2017: Egyptian Photographer Nourhan Maayouf will be awarded an Art residency in Paris, at the Cite Internationale des Arts residence, after she won the Barclays l'Atelier annual competition. The award will entail her spending 6 months in the Cite Internationale, where she will then later do a solo show in South Africa. Maayouf will also be hosting a talk Monday from, August 13, from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m at Photopia in Cairo, Heliopolis

Born in 1990 in Cairo, Maayouf is a self-taught artist who began her creative career in 2010, where she utilizes works in illustration, print and video mediums to discuss her themes of relationships, self-deception, family, objectification and the nature of what 'home' is. Maayouf primarily uses self-portrait photography for her art, and uses installations and performances as part of her projects.

Maayouf has won a total of four awards since 2015, including the 'Sponsored photography prize' from the 26th Youth Salon of Cairo and the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC) sponsored photography prize in Cairo.
