Melbourne IFF to screen a documentary on the radical Burmese Monk

CAIRO - 29 July 2017: The notorious Burmese Buddhist monk, Ashin Wirathu, known for inciting hatred against the Rohingya Muslim minority, is the subject of a documentary that will be screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

The Venerable W. documentary is the third installment of filmmaker Barbet Schroeder’s “trilogy of evil.” His previous documentaries include “General Idi Amin Dada” (1974) about the military dictator of Uganda and “Terror’s Advocate” (2007), about Jacques Vergès, the lawyer and former Free French Forces guerrilla who defended infamous figures like Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie and Holocaust denier Roger Garaudy.

The Melbourne International Film Festival will take place from August 3 to 20.
