CAIRO – 20 July 2017: Malaysia has banned hit Spanish song Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee; however the ban only applies to government owned TV and Radio, and not YouTube or music streaming services.

As USAToday reports, Communications Minister Salleh Said Keruak said that the song had been banned to appeal to local complaints that the lyrics were obscene. BBC news reports that the Chairman of the woman's wing ' Parti Amanah Negara' of Malaysia's Islamic Party had called the song "porn", fearing that it would encourage moral decay in society.

Released in January, Despacito has since gone on to become the most streamed song of all time, with over 4 billion worldwide plays.
