CAIRO – 17 July 2017: Alexandria’s Center of Arts will host Korea’s seven-day cultural carnival on July 20 - 27, the director of the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt, Park Jae Yang, announced in a press conference on Monday.

The carnival is the South Korean embassy’s first activity to be organized in the Mediterranean city.

“The Korean Cultural Center was inaugurated in October 2014 and as you know the activities of the center and the embassy are concentrated in Cairo, but the Korean culture should be disseminated in all the governorates, such as Alexandria, the second-largest city after Cairo,” Park added.

The carnival activities include a lecture on the analogy between Korean and Egyptian culture, and an exhibition featuring Korean pottery and Hanji paper (paper made of bark of the mulberry leaves), Park continued.

The Korean film festival will also be held throughout the week at the Alexandria Center; the movies had been screened previously at Cairo’s El Hanager Cinema Center located at Cairo Opera House on May 14-17, Park said.

“Korean films are nominated for international festivals and won awards; so there should be mutual experience in the views on the films and their stories,” Park said.

A gallery of activities of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Egypt Office will be held.

Another gallery on Korean tourism and its development will be held, while a show on Korean products will take place. A business meeting, organized by the state-funded trade and investment promotion organization KOTRA, will be held.

A show of K-VR simulation will be presented, and traditional Korean music performance by Seoul National University will be played. A festival on the K-Pop World Festival’s preliminary competition in Egypt will also be presented, Park added.
