CAIRO - 27 June 2019: The Ministry of Planning said it works in tandem with the Ministry of Local Development to meet the needs of the poorest villages, adding that investments worth LE 1.3 billion have so far been pumped to these villages in 2019.

It promised that investments in these underprivileged rural areas are to reach LE 6.4 billion in 2020.

This came in a statement it released on Thursday after a meeting of Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy and Planning Minister Hala el Saeed with a host of parliamentarians to review progress in implementing local development plans in Upper Egypt.

The government is cooperating with the parliament to improve services presented to citizens in all governorates, Shaarawy said.

He lauded the success achieved in the implementation of development programs in the Upper Egyptian governorates of Sohag and Qena, noting that he will be paying field visits to them to stand on the accomplishments made so far.

He also said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is following up all the developments of the comprehensive Upper Egypt development program, adding that the prime minister sends to the president periodical reports on the performance rate of all projects included in the program.

Meanwhile, Saeed said that Egypt is making headway in carrying out the development plan, adding that LE 5.3 billion were directed to investments in the Upper Egyptian governorates.

The government is keen on applying a real structural reform plan, she said, adding that implementing the program in Sohag and Qena aims at boosting sustainable local development and generating more job opportunities via improving local infrastructure and the work environment.
