CAIRO – 23 April 2019: Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, declined 8.4 percent, recording LE 131.84 (primary) during April 2019, compared to LE 143.94 (final) during March 2019, the state's statistics body said.

The index of base metals industry rose 16 percent, recording 82.65 during April 2019, compared to 71.22 in the prior month because of the high supply contracts and the availability of energy.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) added that the index of other manufacturing industries increased by 80.89 points during April 2019, compared to 67.28 points in March 2019, marking an increase of 20.2 percent due to the increase in the demand for Aladiyat products (Khan Al-Khalili products).

Meanwhile, the index of food products industry reached 82.44 in April 2019, compared to 108.66 in March 2019, with a decrease of 24.1 percent, due to seasonal sugar production.

CAPMAS also stated that the index of the computers, electronic products, optical and medical devices industry declined 1.5 percent, reaching 178.96 points in April 2019, compared to 181.73 in March 2019, due to production according to signed contracts only.
