CAIRO - 26 May 2017: Egypt will be finalizing a shared electricity network project with Saudi Arabia that will connect Saudi electricity transfer station located in Saudi’s Medina to that in Egypt’s Badr in 2018.

The newly anticipated $610 million electricity network spans over 1,320 kilometers and will be able to transfer 3,000 megawatts according to the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) report.

Arab Fund has previously pumped investments in the project worth of $162 million after signing the Memorandum of Understanding between both countries in 2013.

The project implementation began in 2014 while construction tenders were assigned to contractors in 2015. The project will begin to operate through a trial period next February.
