CAIRO - 11 July 2018: Prime Minister and Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouli witnessed on Tuesday the signing of a $530 million deal to develop Egypt’s health care sector.

The deal was signed by Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr and Najy Benhassine, a manager at the World Bank, in the presence of Health Minister Hala Zayed.

The agreement reflects the World Bank’s absolute confidence in the priority given by Egypt’s political leadership to the health sector, Nasr told a press conference following the inking ceremony.

It also proves the bank’s belief in the steps taken by the Egyptian government to bring about a comprehensive breakthrough with regard to health care services in a way that meets the Egyptian people’s aspirations, she added.

The minister noted that the support included in the deal is the World Bank’s biggest ever provided to the country in the health field, which comes in implementation for the government’s program recently submitted to the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the health minister revealed that a new health project is being carried out, including wide-scale campaigns that would cover some 45 million adults across the country.

The first phase of the project will help improve health care services in 600 health units and 27 hospitals in 10 governorates, Zayed added.
