4-day weekend in EGX on occasion of Eid Al-Fitr

CAIRO – 11 June 2018: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) decided that Sunday and Monday, June 17 and 18, will be an official holiday on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.

The market will resume trading on Tuesday June 19, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

Meanwhile, Minister of Manpower, Mohamed Saafan, said that the first two days of Eid Al-Fitr will be an official holiday for employees working in the private sector.

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that Sunday and Monday, June 17 and 18, will mark Eid Al-Fitr holiday for banks operating in Egypt.

Eid Al-Fitr is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide; it marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Sunday’s session in green; market capitalization gained LE 8.09 billion ($452.53 million), amid foreign purchases.

The benchmark EGX30 rose 1.38 percent, or 219.06 points, to close at 16,142.72 points.

The equally weighted index EGX50 climbed 1.35 percent, or 35.78 points, to reach 2,695.60 points.

Meanwhile, the small and mid-cap index EGX70 hiked 0.78 percent, or 6.20 points, closing at 800.75 points, and the broader index EGX100 increased 0.95 percent, or 19.31 points, to close at 2,057.25 points.
