Banks off on June 17, 18 for Eid Al-Fitr: CBE

CAIRO – 10 June 2018: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that Sunday and Monday, June 17 and 18 will mark Eid Al-Fitr holiday for banks operating in Egypt.

CBE added in a statement that work will resume on Tuesday, June 19.

Eid Al-Fitr is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide; it marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

On a different note, the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended the first session of the week in green; market capitalization gained LE 8.09 billion ($452.53 million), amid foreign purchases.

The benchmark EGX30 rose 1.38 percent, or 219.06 points, to close at 16,142.72 points.

The equally weighted index EGX50 climbed 1.35 percent, or 35.78 points, to reach 2,695.60 points.

Meanwhile, the small and mid-cap index EGX70 hiked 0.78 percent, or 6.20 points, closing at 800.75 points, and the broader index EGX100 increased 0.95 percent, or 19.31 points, to close at 2,057.25 points.
