EGX starts week in green, market cap. gains LE 8.8B

CAIRO – 3 June 2018: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Sunday in green, and market capitalization gained LE 8.8 billion ($490.9 million) amid Egyptian and Arab purchases.

The benchmark EGX30 jumped 1.59 percent, or 260.78 points, to close at 16,675.31 points.

The equally weighted index EGX50 climbed 0.88 percent, or 24.94 points, to reach 2,844.68 points.

Meanwhile, the small and mid-cap index EGX70 rose 0.25 percent, or 2.10 points, closing at 844.76 points, and the broader index EGX100 increased 0.77 percent, or 16.54 points, to close at 2,154.78 points.

Market capitalization won LE 8.8 billion, recording LE 939.28 billion, compared to LE 930.39 billion in Thursday’s session.

The trading volume reached 129.7 million shares, traded through 13,767 transactions, with a turnover of LE 668.64 million.

Foreign investors were net sellers at LE 68.12 million, while Egyptian and Arab investors were net buyers at LE 63.77 million and LE 4.34 million, respectively.

Egyptian, Arab and foreign individuals bought at LE 9.27 million, LE 4.85 million and LE 2.16 million, respectively.

Arab and foreign organizations were net sellers at LE 502,922 and LE 70.28 million, respectively, while Egyptian organizations were net buyers at LE 54.51 million.

Modern Company for Waterproofing (Bitumode), Dice Sport & Casual Wear, and C I Capital Holding were top gainers of the session by 9.26 percent, 6.39 percent and 4.33 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, Ismailia National Food Industries, Atlas for Land Reclamation and Agricultural Processing, and Egypt for Poultry were top losers of the session by 4.45 percent, 3.72 percent and 3.31 percent, respectively.

The EGX ended Thursday’s session in red for the second session in a row, as EGX30 declined 2.06 percent, EGX50 slipped 1.61 percent, EGX100 went down 0.98 percent, and EGX70 decreased 0.56 percent.

Trading on the EGX during the holy month of Ramadan is from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (CLT).
