CAIRO - 10 May 2018: The Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ministry decided to halt importation of all crops from South Africa as a precautionary measure after the appearance of the listeria bacteria.

The Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ) issued an official publication with instructions to guarantee that the bacteria does not enter the country.

The publication bans issuing import authorizations to any plants from South Africa.

Listeria bacteria causes diarrhea and fever and may lead to miscarriage for pregnant women and death
