EGX’s capitalization loses LE 19.6B in 2 minutes

CAIRO – 6 February 2018: Market capitalization of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) lost LE 19.6 billion in the first two minutes on Tuesday’s trading, recording LE 836.67 billion ( $47.29 billion).

The decline of global markets had a pressure on the Egyptian indices which collectively decreased.

The benchmark EGX30 leveled off 2.99 percent, and the small and mid cap index EGX70 declined 2.89 percent.

The broader index EGX100 went down 2.32 percent, and the equally weighted index EGX50 slipped 2.97 percent.

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) ended Monday in green as the benchmark EGX30 rose 0.59 percent, EGX70 increased 0.21 percent, EGX100 increased 0.50 percent and EGX50 gained 0.61 percent.

Market capitalization won LE 5.1 billion on Monday, recording LE 856.24 billion ($48.39 million).

S&P 500 and Dow Industrials indices lost more than 4 percent, as the Dow notched its biggest intraday decline in history with a nearly 1,600-point drop and Wall Street erased its gains for the year.
