CAIRO – 23 January 2018: The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced China's approval to import dates from Egypt, as well as starting the procedures for importing Egyptian pomegranates.

"China's approval to import dates from Egypt will open the gate to implement projects for the expansion of exporting Egyptian dates," Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Abdel Moneim el-Banna said in an official press release.

Banna added that Egypt has 14 million palms with an annual production of dates reaching 1.3 million tons, noting that Marsa Matrouh ranks first in dates production among the Egyptian governorates.

Egypt's agricultural exports increased this season by 500,000 tons, compared to last year's exports, by entering new markets such as: China, Canada, Taiwan, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa.
