Trade with Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa register $3.1B

CAIRO - 11 December 2017: Egypt's trade with Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa registered $3.1 billion in the first eight months of 2017, a recent report of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said.

The exports of Egypt to these countries recorded $2.1 billion, while imports were $1.1 billion, according to the report.

Egypt's total exports from January and August were $17 billion, compared to $41.8 billion of imports.

Bilateral trade between Egypt and other African countries in 2016 recorded $5.46 billion, $3.25 billion of which is exports, while the remaining amount is imports. In the first half of 2017, bilateral trade between both parties reached $2.43 billion, including $1.66 billion in exports.

The deficit in the trade balance slumped $12.23 billion (37 percent) in the first eight months of 2017, to stand at $20.1 billion compared to $32.4 billion in the same period in 2016.

Non-petroleum exports in that period increased 11 percent to register $15 billion, compared to $13.5 billion from January to August in 2016. Meanwhile, non-petroleum imports declined from $45.5 billion to $35.1 billion in the same period, marking a 23-percent decrease.
