CAIRO - 4 December 2017: The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy will start supplying smart meters to affiliated power distribution companies in six governorates this month, a source in the ministry said Monday.

The first locations to see the meters' supply will be 6th October City and Sheikh Zayed districts, the source told Egypt Today.

The Ministry of Electricity is planning to convert all 30 million electricity meters for consumers to smart meters within the next 10 years with an LE 60 billion budget.

Divided on phases, the ministry aims to install four million smart meters a year until 2027.

The ministry will also announce this month the awarded companies of the smart meters' tender, which will be in charge of supplying and installing the meters.
