CAIRO – 22 November 2017: "The Transportation Ministry is currently working on developing the metro networks and studying increasing the metro daily trips number, in an effort to alleviate overcrowding in Cairo's metro," Head of the National Authority for Tunnels Ashraf Abu Krishah said Wednesday.

In the press conference held on the sidelines of the Second Urban Transport Forum in Cairo, Krishah further added that the number of the metro daily trips is likely to increase from 25 to 35 by 2022.

Also, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr signed Wednesday a €500,000 grant agreement with the French Development Agency and the French Cooperation Foundation for Development and Improvement of Urban Transport in Developing Countries. The agreement aims to boost the Urban Support Organization in Egypt and improve its capacity to handle the rush of daily commuters.

The Urban Transport Forum comes as part of the activities of the Franco-Egyptian week, entitled “An Effective Urban Transport for More Sustainable Cities.” The forum brings together experts, officials and decision-makers concerned.
