CAIRO – 9 November 2017: Egypt and Greece will sign a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in the fields of transportation, tourism, taxation, fish farms and agriculture corps, Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil said Thursday.

Currently visiting Athens to attend the events of the EU-Arab World Summit, Kabil discussed with Deputy Prime Minister Yannis Dragasakis increasing bilateral trade and common investment between Egypt and Greece in the upcoming period, a statement from the ministry reported.

Kabil highlighted the importance of establishing a maritime route between Egyptian and Greek ports to facilitate the process of transporting goods to other markets in East Europe and East Africa.

“Despite the economic hurdles faced by Egypt and Greece, business ties between both countries strengthened over the past few years,” Dragasakis was quoted in the statement as saying.

Kabil is scheduled to meet a number of Greek companies to discuss increasing their presence in Egypt, as well as Minister of Economy Giorgos Stathaki, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Loannis Amanatidis and the secretary-general of the Minister of Communication Vassilis Maglaras to promote more cooperation.

Sessions of the summit will tackle challenges facing EU-Arab relations, political security in both regions and cooperation in the energy sector and developing mutual investment.
