CAIRO – 30 August 2017: The state budget’s system of revenues and expenditures is fully secured and monitored, Deputy Minister of Finance for Budget Affairs Mohamed Maeet said Wednesday.

Maeet’s statements came as security bodies arrested Wednesday an auditor at the Customs Authority on charges of offering a bribe to another employee in attempt to obtain LE 47 million from the authority’s budget.

“This case didn’t happen as a result of a glitch in the system, but these employees used their authorities to obtain the funds illegally. This was an exceptional case,” Maeet told Egypt Today.

The deputy minister said these cases will not be repeated as all transactions will be automated soon.

An employee at the Customs Authority has reportedly offered an official in the same authority a bribe of L.E 2.5 million to facilitate seizing L.E 47 million ($2.66 million) from its 2015/2016 fiscal year budget.

Security authorities detected the perpetrators’ manipulations to transfer the seized money to another bank account ahead of dividing it among three persons involved, including the account owner.
