CAIRO – 1 August 2017: Around 10,000 entrepreneurs finished training under the Ministry of Industry’s ‘Start and Improve Your Project’ startup initiative, Minister of Industry Tarek Kabil said Tuesday.

The initiative was launched in 2014 in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to train and mentor entrepreneurs, Kabil said.

During their graduation ceremony, Kabil said that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are important to increase industrial production as that sector encompasses 2.5 million micro, small and medium industrial facilities.

Kabil added that 75 percent of Egypt’s workforce is working in that sector, with 17 percent of their production is exported.

The ministry is working to promote the culture of freelancing and entrepreneurship in Egypt through introducing educational curriculum in schools that focuses on entrepreneurship, improving organizations that support start-ups, developing business incubators and facilitating transferring technology to entrepreneurs.
