CAIRO – 1 August 2017: The Ministry of Transport is working on the re-introduction of the 700 kilometers railway of the Abu Tartur area at a total cost of LE 7 billion ($300 million), Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat said Monday.

The revival project will serve the 1.5 million feddan land reclamation and Golden Triangle projects, the minister added in a press conference.

The minister displayed some achievements in the transport projects in Alexandria, including the Tram project of which an implementation plan is working as targeted, in addition to the Abu Qir Metro which will be transformed into an electric metro.

Speaking about the fuel subsidiary cut, the minister added that the move has a positive impact on the railways, as around 2.5 million tons of goods are being transported annually.

The railways system succeeded in transporting 1,200 tons on the container train from Ain Sokhna to the October area, Arafat said.
