CAIRO - 19 March 2020: Egypt’s State Security Prosecution released 15 detained politicians, including writer and professor of political science at Cairo University Hassan Nafaa, political activists Hazem Abdel-Azim and Shady El-Ghazaly Harb on Thursday.

The released detainees were accused of spreading false news and joining a banned group.

Nafaa was detained after he posted a tweet criticizing President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s regime in September 2019.

Former Presidential campaigner and then turned critic Hazem Abdel-Azim has been brought before the state’s security prosecution for accusations of belonging to an outlawed group and disseminating fake news in May 2018.
