CAIRO-12 June 2017: Parliament approved amendments to the Organ Transplant Law proposed by the government on Monday.

The amendments approved include the Regulations of Law no. (5) for the year 2010 on organ transplant. During its public hearings, Parliament will address the articles one by one before it gives its final approval to the law.

The amendments also included penalties of strict imprisonment and a fine not less than LE 500,000 and not more than LE 1 million for organ removal from a human body with the intention of illegally transplanting it in violation of Articles 2,3, 4, 5, and 7.

This amendment adds that if the illegal act is committed on a living person, and the doctor is found guilty of involvement in illegal organ transplantation he/she shall be suspended and imprisoned for no more than 10 years.
