CAIRO – 21 May 2019: Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Hamdi Sanad Loza received on Sunday Julian Riley, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office special envoy for the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.

During the meeting, Loza and Riley discussed the situation in Sudan and South Sudan and the security of the Red Sea, an official statement read. They also reviewed the developments in the Horn of Africa and ways to back Somalia.

Osama Shaltout, the assistant foreign minister for Sudan and South Sudan Affairs, also attended the meeting.

Earlier in May, Somali President Mohamed Farmaajo lauded Somali-Egyptian relations, asserting the importance of the historical ties binding both countries.

This came during Farmajoo's reception of Loza at the beginning of his current visit to Mogadishu.

Loza's visit to Somailia came as of part of his tour in the Horn of Africa which also included Kenya.

Egypt is keen on following up the latest developments in East Africa and the Horn of Africa in light of its presidency of the African Union in addition to boosting cooperation at the bilateral level at the different domains.
