Shoukry affirms Egypt's support for peace, stability in South Sudan

CAIRO – 12 March 2019: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed Monday Egypt’s support for peace and stability in South Sudan, according to a statement issued by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez.

This came during his meeting with a delegation of the South Sudanese National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC), headed by President of the National Assembly of Southern Sudan Tut Kew Gatluak.

The meeting tackled the latest developments in South Sudan as well as means of boosting bilateral relations in several issues.

Shoukry expressed pleasure that Egypt was chosen as an observer state in the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC), which monitors the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan.

Shoukry also said that the Egyptian Government is ready to transfer its expertise in the field of drafting constitutions and laws to South Sudan, pointing out that Egypt supports South Sudanese people in all fields.

For his part, Gatlak expressed his country's appreciation of the efforts exerted by Egypt to support peace and stability in South Sudan.
