Essebsi asks judiciary to make decision on Muslim Brotherhood

CAIRO - 12 March 2019: Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi called on the judiciary in his country to take measures against the secret society of the Muslim Brotherhood during his opening speech at the Tunisian National Security Council meeting on Monday.

“The judiciary must make a decision on the secret society of the Muslim Brotherhood. What is happening is a threat to the national security,” the Tunisian president said.

Essebsi added that the Tunisian National Security Council will take measures in accordance with the laws regulating its work to unveil the truth. The Tunisian judiciary shut down the “Quranic Reqab School” and the parallel education that does not respect the country’s law.

The school is located in Sidi Bouzid governorate, and was delivering extremism lectures to 40 students in circumstances breaching the child law in Tunisia, and the laws regulating education.

The judiciary was shut off by the Tunisian judiciary amid resentment of leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in the country.

Essebsi stressed the importance of drafting a law that makes up for the state of emergency and that ensures human rights and democracy principles.
The meeting was attended by Head of Government Youssef Chahed, Defense Minister Abdel Karim al-Zubaidy, Justice Minister Al Hady al-Gmousy, and Health Minister Sania Belsheikh.
