Foreign Ministry clarifies new Sudanese cash, customs rules

CAIRO - 2 March 2019: Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified in a statement on Friday new cash and customs rules travelers to Sudan must abide by to avoid any legal repercussions.

The rules are:

It is prohibited to carry more than $3,000 or the equivalent in cash while traveling through urban, air, or seaports.

It is prohibited to carry more than 150 grams of jewelry while leaving the country through urban, air, or seaports.

It is prohibited to acquire or store any quantities of raw gold unless having a license for manufacturing or exportation.

In case of committing or facilitating the breach of such rules, the penalty will be a fine, a prison sentence of maximum 10 years, the confiscation of the cash, jewelry or raw gold as well as any other tools used to commit the act.

Sudan president bans protests, regulates foreign currency trade

KHARTOUM -25 February 2019: Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir banned public gatherings and protests on Monday in a series of emergency decrees issued as he faces the most sustained anti-government street unrest of his 30 year rule.
