CAIRO – 1 March 2019: A Japanese official on Friday described relations between his country and Egypt as strong, commending Egypt’s role in fighting terrorism and extremism.

Japan's Director General for Middle East and Africa Affairs, Hiroshi Oka, said in press remarks that Egypt plays a key role in maintaining stability in the Middle East, despite of the challenges currently troubling the region.

He further commended how Egypt contributed to fighting terrorism and preserving regional stability, pointing out that stability in the Middle East has direct impact on the international conditions and other countries, including Japan.

Oka said in an interview with the Middle East News Agency that security conditions in Egypt have been noticeably improved, therefore Japan took a decision to ease its travel warning on Egypt, noting that resuming direct flights between Cairo and Tokyo in 2017 added to the tourism sector.

Oka voiced his country's keenness on President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit, during which he will participate in Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) that will be held in Yokohama city in August.

Last week, Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar highlighted the vital role of the Egyptian and Japanese business communities in enhancing economic cooperation fields between the two countries in the coming phase.

The minister's remarks were made during his meeting with members of the Egyptian side to the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council.

During the meeting, Nassar pointed out that Egypt is keen on luring more Japanese companies to invest in Egypt along with exchanging expertise with Japan in the industrial field, a matter which could greatly contribute to the development of the Egyptian industry and increase its competitiveness in the local, regional and international markets.
