CAIRO - 22 January 2019: A proposal on establishing a tripartite agricultural cooperation between, Egypt, the European Union and African countries is being discussed, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met with Phil Hogan, the commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, on Monday in Cairo to discuss ways of enhancing the Egyptian ties with the European Union, the statement added.

“The European commissioner for agriculture was keen to listen to Egypt’s vision and priorities, as it chairs the African Union in 2019 [...] both sides tackled the possibility of establishing a tripartite cooperation with African countries in the agricultural field,” the statement read.

On December 22, 2018, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi inaugurated the 100,000-feddan
greenhouses project in El-Lahun village, Beni Suef via video conference.

In August 2019, Egypt and Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) will host activities of the eighth Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW), Agriculture Minister Ezzeldin Abu Stait told state-owned news agency MENA in September 2018.
