CAIRO – 10 January 2019: U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave a speech a mere few minutes ago in the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Starting off his speech, Pompeo started off his speech by saying that this is the best place that he could give his speech in.

“The decisions we take today will have a significant impact on future generations, and there is no better place for me to give my speech that right here, in the American University in the beautiful Cairo,” said Pompeo.

Pompeo went on to thank Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi for his remarkable efforts and Egypt’s significant efforts in the global fights against terrorism.

“President Sisi has stood beside us in the fight against terrorism; we must salute him for his courageous stance,” said the U.S. Secretary of State during his speech.

Pompeo then went on to explain that the wrong decisions that were once taken by the United States will no longer be taken, as the U.S. now has a strong leadership that has a unique vision.

“Look at what we have accomplished under a new and real leadership,” Pompeo said, “This is a new beginning to end terrorism.”

“We will continue to work with our allies in the Middle East to defeat Isis and we will support Cairo in its war against ISIS in Sinai and Arab states, especially Yemen and Libya,” Pompeo declared.

“The U.S. will also be a supporting power to its allies … You cannot say the same for the Russians, Iranians, or Chinese … When our role ends in the Middle East we leave because we are not here to conquer,” Pompeo said.

Pompeo also explained that the U.S. sees Iran as the real enemy.

Pompeo arrived in Cairo on Wednesday evening as part of his eight-country Mideast tour that started with Jordan. Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received the US official earlier at the presidential palace.

US Secretary of State Pompeo said "the US-Egypt relationship is one of our deepest and broadest partnerships in the region."

Pompeo tweeted that it is "wonderful to be in Cairo", adding that he is looking forward to a good visit.
