Palestinian issue continues to be a priority: Sisi

CAIRO – 5 January 2019: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Saturday Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Abbas Kamel, Head of the General Intelligence, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt.

Speaking on the event, Bassam Radi, Presidential Spokesperson, said that the president assured during the meeting the strong relationship that connects Egypt and Palestine, pointing out that the Palestinian issue will remain a priority to Egypt’s foreign policy, affirming that Egypt will continue to exert its effort to ensure that the Palestinian people will regain their legitimate rights, as per international agreements.

Sisi also confirmed that Egypt will continue its efforts with Palestinian parties to reach reconciliation, and will work towards overcoming all the difficulties that stand in the way of Palestinian reconciliation and unity.

Radi added that the Palestinian President spoke of his deep appreciation towards Egypt’s efforts and its historic position in backing the Palestinian issue, pointing out that this implies the deep and intimate relationship between the two nations. The Palestinian President extended his appreciation towards Egypt’s efforts to reach reconciliation between different Palestinian segments and unite them as one.

Abbas also assured that he is adamant on ensuring the continuation of discussions and coordination with Egypt regarding all mutual issues of interest.

In addition, Radi pointed out that two presidents discussed key issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
