BEIJING – 3 January 2019: The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed anew its keenness on fostering cooperation and coordination with Egypt to promote peace, stability and development across Africa as Egypt will chair the African Union in February.

During a press conference on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang said China is deeply interested in bolstering development in Africa.

He added that China backs Egypt's quest
for a more active role on the African arena during its chairmanship of the union.

Lu said Africa was selected to be the first destination of the Chinese foreign minister in the new year.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is currently on a tour of four African states. Wang is scheduled to meet with African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Ambassador to China Osama Magdoub told MENA that the Egyptian-Chinese ties witnessed a great momentum in view of the common understanding between the leaderships of the two countries.
