CAIRO - 26 November 2018: Qatari Leaks, the website run by the Qatari opposition, revealed on Monday the princedom’s attempts to increase its role in Iraq reporting a visit by its foreign minister to Baghdad earlier this month.

Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed with Iraqi Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed al-Halbousy Qatar’s funding for the country’s reconstruction projects that can be assumed by Iran.

The website uncovered that Al Thani suggested putting the Islamic-State-freed areas under the control of Iran-backed militias, and that Halbousi welcomed “Qatar’s suspicious participation in Iraq’s reconstruction.”

The website unveiled that a secret visit by Halbousi to Doha took place without indicating the timing saying that he agreed to a proposal for Iraq to join a coalition comprising Qatar, Iran, Turkey, and Syria. The website described the offer as an attempt to dissociate Iraq from the Arab World.
