KUWAIT CITY - 18 October 2018: Palestinian Labor Ministry Undersecretary Samer Salama commended the outstanding efforts exerted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for ending the 12-year-long Palestinian schism.

Salama made the remarks on Thursday in an interview with MENA correspondent on the fringe of his participation in meetings of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) board in Kuwait.

He called on Sisi to proceed with his painstaking efforts to restore the Palestinian unity.

He said the Palestinian people will never forget the Egyptian support for the just Palestinian cause in the various international forums.

He underlined the deeply-rooted Egyptian-Palestinian ties.

As for Palestinian laborers' conditions, Salama called for referring the report presented by the Palestinian delegation to the ALO in order to issue a resolution goading Israel into halting pressure on Palestinian workers.

Concerning the cash-strapped United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), he said the impasse is politically-motivated at first place, noting that UN agency's financial crisis is exacerbating.

The UNRWA crisis is meant to prod the Palestinian Authority into political concessions, he said, noting that more pressure is expected in the coming period.

He said the US' decision to suspend aid, including humanitarian assistance to hospitals in the occupied East Jerusalem, will have a ripple impact on the Palestinian economy and will up unemployment rate, especially as donor states failed to send the pledged assistance.

Salama stressed the Palestinian Authority would remain steadfast in the face of the challenges besetting it.

He voiced hope that Arab sisterly states would offer financial support for UNRWA after the US suspension of aid.

He expounded that the Palestinian leadership's suffering ensued from its rejection of the "deal of the century" tendered by US President Donald Trump.

Salama highlighted that this deal would liquidate the Palestinian cause, stressing commitment to international legitimacy resolutions.
