CAIRO – 30 August 2018: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed in a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas late Wednesday the reconciliation between the two political rivals Fatah and Hamas, WAFA news agency reported.

During the phone conversation, the two leaders reviewed Egyptian efforts to achieve the desirable reconciliation, as President Sisi stressed that Cairo would continue its efforts in this regard, and its keenness to strengthen the national reconciliation among Palestinian factions.

For his part, President Abbas commended Egypt's continued support for the Palestinian people's rights and its key role to bring about the national reconciliation, with the aim of thwarting all plots targeting the Palestinian cause, in addition to backing the establishment of a Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital.

At the end of the call, Sisi and Abbas agreed to continue coordination on the reconciliation file over the coming period.
