CAIRO – 23 May 2017: Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Hamdi Sanad Loza met with Congolese Foreign Minister Léonard She Okitundu Monday during an Egyptian delegation visit to Congo, an Egyptian Foreign Ministry press statement said.

The two sides discussed various international and regional issues of common concern as well as prospects of mutual cooperation between Egypt and Congo.

The delegation’s stop in Congo comes as part of an official visit to Nile Basin countries.

Okitundu commended the developmental role Egypt plays in his country and the continuous political coordination between the two countries.

He also thanked the Egyptian leadership for the warm welcome received by Congolese President Joseph Kabila during his latest visit to Egypt. In April 2017, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Kabila at Cairo’s Itihadiya Palace.

Talks between Sisi and Kabila addressed boosting bilateral relations between the two countries, raising the amount of trade and encouraging joint economic projects, besides aiding Congo in building two solar energy plants in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa.

Loza applauded Congolese support to Egypt in the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI).

NBI is a partnership among the Nile riparian states that seeks to develop the river in a cooperative manner, share substantial socioeconomic benefits and promote regional peace and security.

Loza visited the Egyptian Formed Police Unit (EGY-FPU) headquarters in Kinshasa to check on affairs of the delegated Egyptian soldiers. He was recognized for his visit, which coincided with the Egy-FPU Medal Parade 2017.
