CAIRO – 17 May 2017: The admission of Palestine as an observer in the African Parliament is a historic achievement that confirms Africa’s support to the Palestinian people, Palestinian Ambassador to South Africa Hashem al-Dajani stated Tuesday.

Dajani also thanked the Egyptian people and Egypt’s political leadership for their constant support for the Palestinian cause, during a meeting of the Pan-African Parliament in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Even though the parliament membership is symbolic, it is important for our people,” Dajani said, stating that the parliament’s session is a message of support from the African continent to the struggle of the Palestinian people.

The parliament issued a declaration, Tuesday, in support of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli prisons. The motion of support also condemned Israel’s controversial detention policies.
