CAIRO – 21 May 2018: Alaa el-Din Ebeid, international relations consultant of the Egyptian community in Gaza, revealed exclusive information to Egypt Today about a ceremony to be held on Monday evening in Gaza. The ceremony is entitled “Thank you, Egypt”, and extends thanks and gratitude to Egypt’s leadership, government and people for their support to the Palestinian people.

“There will be a gathering in Al-Saraya square in Gaza where people will participate in raising the photo of Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on the square’s mural along with the words “Thank you, Egypt”. A large number of Palestinian people and leading figures are participating in the ceremony; they will send a message of gratitude and appreciation to the Egyptian leadership and to President Sisi,” Ebeid, who is also head of the ‘Palestinian Initiative for the Love of Egypt’, added.

Ebeid continued, "This ceremony is the least we can do to Egypt to express the gratitude of the Palestinian people, with all their classes and political parties, who gather in love for Egypt. On top of those is the Palestinian leadership, represented by Mahmoud Abbas, along with all other popular and partisan leaders who are keen to preserve and strengthen the Egyptian-Palestinian relations which have been intact for ages, empowered by the stances President Sisi takes and the support he provides the Palestinians with, seeking to preserve the Arab identity of Palestine and Jerusalem. We will also send out invitations through the ceremony to all Arab presidents, including Sisi, to visit Gaza and to bring public delegations that include writers, artists, media professionals and academics to join the Palestinian people’s rising and to protect the peacefulness of their demands".

On a different note, Ebeid said that the people of Gaza are the only ones who can steer the wheel, and that all the parties and organizations they produced were formed with the purpose of supporting and empowering the primary Palestinian cause, not weakening it by dividing the Palestinian people and shifting their focus away from the pivotal cause; the cause that is in fact the primary reason why these organizations and parties were created in the first place. Ebeid also urged the heads of political parties to support the Palestinian people by making decisions that can unite the resistance fronts and restructure the political and security systems in accordance with the demands of the people.

It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian President had ordered the Rafah border crossing to be opened during the month of Ramadan and aids to be sent to the Gaza Strip. He also ordered that those wounded in the Return March be received and treated in Egyptian public hospitals.

Under President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi directives, the Rafah Border Crossing is opened for the second day in a row after a decision to keep the crossing open throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

Since the Gaza rallies began on March 30, more than 100 Palestinian demonstrators have been martyred by the Israeli army.

Egypt has been exerting numerous efforts to support the Palestinians and bring peace to the Gaza strip, which is witnessing massacre of Palestinians by Israeli forces along the Gaza-Israel fence.

Rafah Border Crossing opened throughout Ramadan:

On May 18, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi directed to keep the Rafah crossing with Gaza open for the entire month of Ramadan.

The Egyptian leader has ordered the relevant authorities to keep the crossing open to ease some of the burdens of residents of the Gaza Strip.

Keeping the crossing open will allow the passage of diesel fuel, construction materials, food and medicine.

“I issued directives to take the necessary measures to keep the Rafah border crossing open throughout the holy month of Ramadan in a bid to relieve some of the burdens suffered by our brothers in the Gaza strip,” Sisi posted on Facebook and Twitter.
