AMMAN - 19 May 2018: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al Safdy stressed the need to provide protection for the Palestinian people and fulfill their legitimate rights in having an independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Both diplomats explained that this should be top priority for the international community in order to prevent further escalation in the region and achieve peace.

According to a statement issued by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry on Saturday, the two ministers reviewed during a meeting on the sidelines of an extraordinary Islamic summit in Istanbul yesterday, Arab, Islamic and the international community's efforts to address the repercussions of the decision of the United States to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move its embassy there.

The meeting discussed launching an international investigation into the massacre committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians in Gaza and efforts to resume peace talks.

Both diplomats stressed the importance of achieving Palestinian reconciliation, which serves the interest of the Palestinians.

Safdy underlined his country's support to Egypt in its efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.

Both officials underscored the depth of bilateral relations, in addition to cooperation and coordination between their countries.
