CAIRO - 11 March 2018: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will embark Monday on a short African tour to South Sudan and Kenya in order to boost bilateral relationships with these two African states and discuss various regional topics of mutual interest.

“Shoukry will start his African tour by visiting Juba where he will meet with President Salva Kiir Mayardit and sign a bilateral political consultation mechanism memorandum,” said the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid in a statement Sunday.

Abou Zeid added that Shoukry will meet with Mayik Aye Deng, minister of presidential affairs in South Sudan and special envoy of President Salva Kiir. “Egypt will deliver a logistic assistance offered from the Egyptian Partnership for Development Agency, which is affiliated with the Foreign Ministry.”

Shoukry is expected to pay a visit to the Egyptian clinic in Juba and inaugurate, in the company of South Sudan Minister of Health Riek Gai Kok, a Dialysis Center which Egypt donated to Juba Educational Hospital, Abou Zeid revealed.

In a related context, Egyptian Acting Director of General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel met with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Sunday. Kamel and Bashir tackled the importance of maintaining communication between Egypt and Sudan, according to the Egyptian state news agency MENA.

Kamel’s visit to Khartoum came within the framework of efforts exerted by a joint quartet committee formed according to a decision made by Bashir and President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi during the latest African summit.

In 2005, Egypt set a strategy to support development in newborn states; Abou Zeid manifested that Egypt built four electricity plants and enormous numbers of schools and clinics, in addition to the Egyptian contribution to the irrigation and medical fields.

As Kenya will be the second African destination, Abou Zeid pointed out that Shoukry is scheduled to meet with the Kenyan president; Shoukry will convey President Sisi's message to the Kenyan president aiming at strengthening bilateral relationships between the two countries.

“Shoukry will meet with his Kenyan counterpart and the minister of defense as well,” Abou Zeid added.
